What is HANA?

SAP HANA (High-Speed Analytical Appliance) is an in-memory database platform developed by SAP SE that can be deployed on premises or in the cloud. It uses in-memory computing to store compressed data in random access memory (RAM), rather than storing it in relational databases on disk drives. Compared to accessing data on standard disks, SAP HANA can access in-memory data 10,000 times faster. Thus, it allows companies to rapidly analyze large amounts of data and process transactions in seconds rather than hours. That’s right, 10,000 times faster than traditional relational databases stored on disk i.e. Microsoft SQL.

Why would a company chose HANA?

SAP HANA analyzes live data for real-time business decisions – processing transactions and analytics wherever they reside – using advanced data processing engines for business, text, spatial, graph and series data. SAP HANA supports real-time analytics for monitoring telecommunications networks, fraud detection and security, forecasting and profitability reporting, optimizing energy use and other business processes.

Deployed in a SUSE environment, SUSE works with an ecosystem of partners and communities to deliver enterprise-grade, open source software-defined infrastructure and application delivery solutions backed by superior service and support.

SAP HANA is certified to run on Linux. The system is designed to support both horizontal and vertical scaling. Because SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is a reference development platform for SAP software, SUSE collaborates with SAP to tune the Linux OS for peak performance.

HANA and SUSE The Perfect Cloud Foundation

As companies work to expand their omni-channels, the amount of data and even integrations can become overwhelming for a traditional database. HANA’s Symantec Layer provides a synchronous multi-channel interface. Traditional relational databases only provide an asynchronous interface. No other Linux distribution makes it easier to migrate your existing workloads or stand up new workloads in the cloud. HANA puts companies into the express lane. Do more quicker with HANA.

Whether you’re running your SUSE solutions at large global providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform as on-demand instances, bringing your own subscription to the cloud, or with other SUSE Cloud Service Provider partners and hosters as cloud or dedicated managed servers, you’ll take advantage of the boost to your agility that HANA offers.
